Potty Training Tips

Your child is now at least two years of age, and you have figured that it is time to start thinking about how to potty train him or her. After all, you can’t wait for the day when you can stop changing those disposable or cloth diapers and carrying that diaper bag around every time you leave the house.

Some indicators that your child may be ready to start potty training include; they become upset when they soil their diapers, they take delight in imitating others in using the toilet, they stay dry for more than two hours at a time. Other indicators of readiness for potty training include the activity of pulling their own pants up and down, or they express in some way the need to use the potty.

One of the best methods for your child to learn the ways of the potty is to let him/her learn by example. Allow your child to watch you using the potty. This method can be more affective then you may think.

It is a good idea to properly prepare the toilet for your little-one. Many children are afraid of falling into the toilet, which can greatly delay potty training efforts for obvious reasons. Such fears can be extinguished by using a “flip n flush” potty seat, which effectively reduces the size of the toilet hole, thus giving your child the needed confidence to use the toilet.

Since toilets are higher off the ground than what’s appropriate for a small child, a good solution to such a problem is a small step ladder specially designed (Freedom Trainer) to give your little-one easy and safe access to the grownup toilet. Both of the toilet training devices just discussed will help to potty train your child without having to deal with separate “toilet trainer” messes.

Now you know of the signs to look for in regard to potty-training readiness. Remember to do your best to make potty training a positive experience for your child, not a negative one.
